I can clearly picture my mom sitting on the floor, surrounded by photos. She diligently printed out every photo, then labeled every single one with the date, the people, and what was happening. Every photo taken my entire childhood, labeled and placed into albums. It wasn't until I was much older that I realized what treasures these albums are.
When I had my own children, I followed my mom's example. I printed out every photo I took, labeled them carefully, and put them into albums. But sometime after my second child was born, things...shifted. I stopped printing photos out and shared them online instead. I used various websites to upload my photos and print albums directly. I uploaded all my photos to my computer and saved them on external hard drives and to the cloud.
But what about my mom's albums? What would happen if there was a fire or flood? There were no backups, nothing saved to a cloud somewhere. Those memories would just be gone. Forever.
When my friends found out what I was doing, they mentioned their albums and their boxes full of photos. How they would love to get them scanned and uploaded somewhere safe. The more people I talked to, the more I realized how many people want their memories preserved digitally. And so I decided to start Heritage Photo Preservation, to help everyone who has a box of photos in their closet or a collection of Grandma's old albums. If you find yourself in that group, please reach out to me so we can preserve your family's memories so they can be shared and enjoyed for years to come.
